If you see a medium-sized shorebird with long, bright yellow legs, it will be, of course, a Yellowlegs. If it’s too far away to see the leg color, you can still get a clue from the way it bobs its head and tail as it walks and runs through shallow water. The Greater Yellowlegs sometimes picks and probes, and sometimes swishes its beak back and forth in the water to stir up crustaceans and small fish. Its call is an excited tew, tew, tew. |
