Like many wasps, the Ichneumon Wasp lays eggs inside the body of living caterpillars, ants and beetles. It uses its very large abdomen to probe around in the soil to find its victim. Then it deposits one egg inside the body of that animal. The wasp eggs hatch and become larvae. The larvae are still inside the body of the caterpillar, ant or beetle, so they grow there, eating the animal from the inside out. Wasps get rid of a lot of insects, so they are beneficial to humans.
