Look on grassy hillsides for the Sun Cup, with its four yellow petals. It is a coastal flower, found only in Southern Oregon and Northern California. It blooms earlier than most wildflowers, as early as January. It is pollinated by ants.

Many native grasses grow in bunches. Plants like Sun Cups find a space to grow between the bunches, and fill it with their flat leaves to keep an opening to the sun for their pretty yellow blossoms.
