Water Smartweed Polygonum punctatum |
As the wetlands begin to dry up in late summer, Smartweed moves in and carpets the area. It spreads throughout the wet mud. It even puts out stems into the water that’s left, where the leaves float and hold up the pink blossoms. The “smart” in this plant’s name does not describe its brain power. Instead it tells how your skin will feel if you handle it. Your skin will smart, or sting and burn. |
