Butterflies, moths and skippers belong in a group called Lepidoptera. That means wings with scales on them. You can see the scales with a microscope.

Skippers are interesting because in some ways they look like a butterfly, and in other ways, like a moth. Like most moths, they have stocky, hairy bodies. Like most butterflies, they have “knobs” at the ends of their antennae. And they hold their hind wings flat like a moth, but they hold their forewings folded up over their body like a butterfly.
