The Painted Lady is probably the most widespread butterfly in the world. It is often called “Thistle Butterfly” because it likes to drink the nectar of that flower. It lays its eggs on the thistle plant, and the caterpillars that develop from the eggs grow fat eating thistle leaves.

The male Painted Lady chases away other males to protect his territory, while he waits for a female to show up and choose him for a mate.
