Ocean sunfish are the world’s heaviest bony fish, weighing up to 5,000 pounds. (The great white shark is big, but it has cartilage for its skeleton, not bones. And whales are big, but they’re mammals.) Sunfish look like a fish with a head and no tail. Their mouth is very small, but they don’t eat large prey; they just suck jellies and small fish and squid out of the water. Their teeth are in their throat. One Sunfish can produce 300 million eggs. |
