Like the California Quail, these birds have a plume on the top of their head, but the Mountain Quail’s plume is tall and straight. Mountain Quail will eat insects, but mostly they eat seeds, leaves and berries. They are very good at hiding in the brush to avoid predators like hawks, coyotes, bobcats and snakes. When winter comes to the mountains they migrate down closer to the valleys, mostly walking instead of flying. |
