Miner's Lettuce Claytonia perfoliata |
Miner's Lettuce is usually found in moist, shady spots in the
woods. It dries up and turns red in the hot summer. During the Gold Rush,
miners used to eat the leaves of this plant because it is full of Vitamin C,
which helps prevent a disease known as scurvy.
