Killer Whale

Orcinus Orca

Photo ŠJim Nahmens, Nature's Spirit Photography

Killer Whales are also called Orcas. They are "toothed whales," which means they have teeth to eat their prey. That is different from "baleen whales" like the Humpback. Some groups of Orcas just eat fish. Other groups eat mostly sea lions and seals, and even other whales. They hunt in groups and share the kill

The male Killer Whale is larger than the female. It has a dorsal fin that stands about 6 feet in the air.
