Why do Humpbacks breach (jump out of the water)? Maybe the whales just think it’s fun. When the Humpback breaches you can see the grooves in its throat. The grooves allow its throat to expand and take in huge gulps of plankton and small fish. Humpbacks sing. To us, their song sounds like a 9-minute series of long groans, low moans, roaring sounds, trills and chirps. Different groups of Humpbacks have different songs. Only the males sing. |
