Look for this plant in grassy meadows in March and April. By May it has already turned brown. Blue-eyed Grass seems to be named all wrong. It isn’t really a grass, and it has a yellow “eye” in the center, not blue. Sometimes you only see the purplish-blue blossom peeking up out of the surrounding grasses. If you push those aside you’ll see that its leaves and stalk are long flat blades, like an iris. And that’s actually what it is. |
