Desert Pallid Bat |

Is a bat a flying mouse, or just a bird without feathers? Neither of these. Bats are mammals, just like humans, whales and raccoons. But they can fly, and no other mammal can do that. (Some squirrels are called "flying squirrels," but they don’t really fly, just glide from tree to tree. Bats have actual wings that flap like a bird.) Some bats eat fruit. Others eat insects, usually catching them as they fly. The Pallid Bat is unusual because it swoops down and snatches insects and larvae on the ground. |
