Raccoons are ominivorous. That means they eat almost everything: frogs, crabs, birds, duck eggs, fruit and insects. They will swim in a pond or climb a tree to get the food they want. They particularly like people food, and are smart about getting into places to get it. Their front feet are very good at grasping things. They can pry the lid off a garbage can, open a cabinet door, or turn on a water faucet. They can be a nuisance in campgrounds, and even in urban areas if there is food around. |
