Cabezon |
This fish is an "ambush predator." It likes to hide among the rocks in the kelp forest and suddenly lunge at fish, molluscs and crustaceans. Its name means "large head" in Spanish and it can swallow large prey. A Cabezon can even swallow a small, whole abalone, and regurgitate the shells. Females are usually green and males are more reddish. The male Cabezon guards its eggs until they hatch. Cabezons are eaten by humans and larger fish. |
