Broad-footed Mole Scapanus latimanus |

Moles are not plant-eating rodents like gophers. They are insectivores. They eat insects, worms and spiders. We often get mad at moles for burrowing in our gardens and lawns, but moles eat a lot of grubs and other pests that would do more damage to the plants than moles do. Hawks and owls like to eat moles as much as they like gophers and mice, but moles are a lot harder to catch because they almost never come out of their burrow. Sometimes coyotes will dig down into their burrow to catch them. |
